BRANCH OPINION

Profile PVC piping, OBC Article 7.2.5.9.

Can Ribbed Profile PVC piping conforming to the CSA B182.4 standard be used outside a building for sanitary sewage?.

Clause 7.2.5.9.(1)(f) states:

" Plastic pipe, fittings and solvent cement used underground outside a building or under a building in a drainage system or venting system shall be certified to Can/CSA B182.4 "Profile (Ribbed) PVC Sewer Pipe and Fittings"

Sentence 7.2.5.9.(2) would require that this pipe has a stiffness of 320 kPa or greater.

A drainage system is defined in Article 1.1.3.2. as follows:

" means an assembly of pipes, fittings, fixtures and appurtenances on the property that is used to convey sewage and clear water waste to a main sewer or a private sewage disposal system, and includes a private sewer but does not include subsoil drainage piping or piping that carries storm sewage from areas that are not part of a building."

Sewage means either sanitary or storm sewage.

Using the definitions to clarify Clause 7.2.5.9.(1)(f), Profile (Ribbed) PVC piping that conforms to the B182.4 with a minimum pipe stiffness of 320 kPa can be used under a building in sanitary or storm applications or be used outside a building in sanitary or storm applications.
