Sentence 7.6.2.3.(5) of the OBC which states:
Backflow prevention devices to protect a potable water
system from contamination shall be selected, installed, and
field tested in accordance with the CAN/CSA B64.10, 'Backflow
Prevention Devices - Selection, Installation, Maintenance, and Field
Testing'.
This Sentence references the B64.10 standard for selection, installation and field testing and is enforceable under Part 7 of the OBC.
Table 2.6.3.A and Article 2.6.3.2. of the OBC. Table 2.6.3.A references the CAN/CSA B64.10 M88 standard. Article 2.6.3.2. states "Where documents are referenced in this Code, they shall be in the edition designated in Column 2 of Table 2.6.3.A." By referencing this standard, the provisions within this standard automatically apply except if they conflict with an area that is covered within the body of the Code.
In regards to the conflict between the B64.10 standard in Clause 4.3.4.4.(b) which requires a DCVA on wet fire stand-pipes or sprinkler systems without chemicals and Clauses 7.6.2.3.(4) (a) and (b) which require isolation from the potable water system by a listed alarm check valve for a sprinkler system and a resilient seated check valve for a wet standpipe system; the OBC directly specifies the type of device that is required, this would over-rule the standard. Article 2.6.2.1. states "In the case of conflict between the provisions of the Code and those of a referenced document, the provisions of the Code shall govern". Clause 4.3.4.4.(b) would not be enforceable as the Code directly covers this situation.
