PVC PIPING - FLAME SPREAD RATING AND SMOKE DEVELOPMENT

PVC piping has a flame spread of less than 25 and a smoke developed classification of more than 50. Therefore, PVC piping cannot be used in:

  1. a ceiling space used as a return air plenum or
  2. a building classified as a high building under 3.2.6. except if concealed in a wall or a concrete floor slab.
