O.B.C. ARTICLE 3.4.4.4 - INTEGRITY OF EXITS

The intent of this article is to ensure that exits are used only for exiting from a floor area (the only exception is to access a floor area). Service rooms, storage rooms, and other ancilliary rooms are not permitted to open into an exit. The smoke and fire originating in such an ancilliary room is considered as an unacceptable hazard to safe egress via an adjacent exit. This same reasoning applies to elevators located in a REQUIRED exit stairwell, shown as follows:
