TESTING OF POTABLE WATER SYSTEMS BY WATER TEST
As required by Article 7.3.7.2. of the Ontario Building Code.
GENERAL PROCEDURE:
Close all openings and fill the entire system with potable
water.
At the uppermost outlet, expel all the air from the system.
Pump the water to a pressure of not less than 1000 kPa (145
psi) for a minimum of 1 hour.
Examine all the piping, fittings, and connections for signs
of leakage.
If after 1 hour, the pressure in the piping must be the
identical with no additional pumping of the system, then the
piping passes the water test.
Remove all test equipment and safely lower the pressure.
NOTE: Potable water only must be used for this test.
TESTING OF POTABLE WATER SYSTEMS BY AIR TEST

GENERAL PROCEDURE:
Close all openings in the piping system.
Securely attach an air compressor (or pressurized cylinder)
to the piping system.
Pressurize the piping to 700 kPa (102 psi) for 2 hours.
Examine all the piping, fittings, and connections for signs
of leakage.
If after 2 hours, the pressure in the piping must be
identical with no additional air being added, then the
piping passes the air test.
Remove all test equipment and safely reduce the pressure.
NOTE: The air may be air, oxygen, nitrogen, argon or any
